DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) is the genetic material located in every cell in our body.
Every cell, from skin to saliva, from blood to urine, contains the same DNA packed in 46 chromosomes. Only the woman's egg-cells and the man's spermatozoa contain 23 chromosomes, half the chromosome count.
At the moment of conception, the egg cell from the mother and the sperm cell from the father combine into one cell with 46 chromosomes. This means that every individual gets half their DNA from the mother and half from the biological father. This principle ties in with what is known as Mendel's Second Law.
“Half of every child's DNA comes from the mother, half from the father.”
